Women's Ministry

The purpose statement for our women's ministry is as follows:

The Women's Ministry of WSFBC, under the authority of the Elders and in harmony with the rest of the goals of the church, exists to do the following:

  1. Provide opportunities for fellowship, edification, and accountability that women may grow in godliness (Hebrews 10:24)
  2. Provide opportunities for woman to woman discipleship on subjects related to godly conduct, love for husbands and children, and other topics which can bring glory to God (Titus 2:3-5)
  3. Provide service opportunities to inspire, cultivate, and equip confident, godly womanhood to the benefit of the household, the church, and the community (Acts 9:36; 1 Timothy 5:10; 2 Timothy 3:15)

Many women's ministries limit subject matter to only so-called "women's issues" based on Titus 2:3-5. We do not. A careful reading of Titus 2:1-10 in context shows that the entire word of God is in view here, not just women's issues. We agree with John Piper who said that pastors need "to cultivate female sages who take seriously both the close careful study of God's Word, while serving as wise, theologically-informed mentors for younger Christian women." As Thabiti Anyabwile points out, the Great Commission of teaching and making disciples does not only apply to men, but the Church. And, we agree with what Piper has stated elsewhere:

"Wimpy theology makes wimpy women . . . Wimpy theology simply does not give a woman a God that is big enough, strong enough, wise enough, and good enough to handle the realities of life in a way that magnifies the infinite worth of Jesus Christ."

As Elders, we hope and pray and anticipate the women of our church to grow into sages as they learn from God, not just how to run a home, raise children, and love their husbands, but to know, appreciate, and teach the full counsel of God's word as God gives opportunity. And, we try to make sure there is opportunity each month. Check the church calendar for the next Women's Meeting.
